Christian Values

At East Meon, our core Christian values of love, courage and hope underpin all that we do. We aim to teach children the importance of using moral values to guide the choices they make.

Love

We believe that love is showing kindness and respect towards ourselves, others and the world around us. We use the image above to remind us of the creation story, where God showed love through creating a beautiful planet for us to live on. The hands act as a reminder that we in turn need to show love and respect towards the world and everything in it.

In the Bible, Jesus teaches us: ‘Love the Lord your God, with all your heart, soul and mind. This is the first and most important commandment. And the second command is like the first, love your neighbour as you love yourself.’ (Matthew 22: 37-39)

Jesus demonstrated his unconditional love during his time on earth in many different ways and, as followers of Jesus, we aim to walk in his footsteps.

Courage

We believe that courage is making the right choice even when it is hard. We use the story of David and Goliath to remind us that when we make the right decision, even if it might be challenging, God will support us.

In the book of Joshua, God tells his people to: ‘Be strong and courageous; do not be frightened, for the Lord God is with you wherever you go.’ This reminds us to stand against injustice and to be the best we can be when things are difficult.

Hope

We believe that hope is more than a wish - we have the power to turn it into a reality. We use the story of Noah's Ark to remind us of Noah's hope that God would look after him and the animals during the flood and that the flood would come to an end.

The beginning of John’s Gospel says: ‘The light shines in the darkness and the darkness has not overcome it.’ Throughout his life, Jesus gave hope to others and the resurrection of Jesus shows us that evil can never triumph over love.
